It is with great pleasure, that Gay Abandon can reveal, that a sizeable chunk of money has been received from Leeds Inspired!
This money from Leeds City Council will allow us to attain one of our long-term goals of reaching out to and embracing young LGBT life in Leeds and its environs.
We are now seeking recruits for our series of four workshops, which will be held with James Nash, a poet from Leeds.
Recruits (aged exclusively from 18 to 25) will take part in four evening sessions from 21st October to 11th November 2014, at 7:30pm.
Attendees will be guided to seek out their idol or icon, and write Spoken Word about said person.
There will then be the opportunity to record the content, or perform it at Gay Abandon’s concert on 15th November 2014.
Each student’s work will be printed, and produced for sale in a small anthology, at Gay Abandon’s concert. It will also be available for viewing on a dedicated website.

It has come to our attention that there has been a mistake concerning our event in the printed brochure from LCoM. Thanks to our long standing fans for pointing this out to us…
Idols and Icons is on SATURDAY 15th NOVEMBER, not Friday 14th, and tickets are £12/£10 concessions, not £12/£11 as stated in the brochure. LCoM have been helpful in trying to rectify this.
Please share this information with anyone who has been concerned that they couldn’t make it to our concert this year because of the change in day. We are still performing on a Saturday and our ticket prices remain the same! It would be great if you could join us!
Led by Jane Edwardson (Musical Director), Gay Abandon will present a fabulous night of songs inspired by Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB), idols and icons.
By popular demand they will also be reprising their sell out ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ set which has been performed internationally at the European gay choirs’ festival in Dublin in 2014.
Gay Abandon has welcomed a number of new younger members to the choir in the last year and this has inspired them to celebrate their LGB musical idols and icons. With new arrangements by Jane Edwardson and accompanist Andy Fellows, they will be taking a fresh look at the songs which enabled them to be proud of their sexuality when they were coming out.
So come and join in the celebration of their LGB Idols and Icons and relive your youth!
Tickets £12 (£10 concessions) available through the Leeds College of Music website or call the Box Office on 0113 222 3434.
